what is a hazard
a hazard is something with the potential to cause serious harm (illness, injury)

HAZARD 1. biological what, causes, fix
infectious waste (blood,condoms,needles) can cause diseases,hiv/aids etc.
HAZARD 2.manual tasks what, causes

HAZARD 3. gravity what, causes
falling objects, falls, slips,trips
can cause bruises, broken bones, concussion, permanent injury or death
HAZARD 4. radiation what, causes
to much or too long of doses of radiation
can cause cells to become damage or die
HAZARD 5. psychological hazards what, causes
the effects stress, violence and work related fatigue
can cause people not to preform to there best and more abscenses
HAZARD 6. equipment related what, causes
faults, breaks, maintanance
can cause injuries and workplace can be sued
HAZARD 7. work policies & procedures what, different examples
unsafe work practices- not providing safety
example- no water in session, no PPE given, no first aid, fire exit has trip hazard
HARZARD 8. Hazardous chemicals what, causes
chemicals, dusts
can cause respiratory illnesses, cancers or skin condition
identifying hazards

PPE stands for? and example
personal protective equipment
-glasses, gloves,goggles, ear plugs, breathing masks, appropriate footwear and clothing
workplace health and safety procedures and expectations
complete required documents
follow WHS guidelines
following specific housekeeping rules the workplace follow
handle toxic and hazardous chemicals as workplace rules say
incident/injury report forms- what included
date/time of injury affected area people involved how/where is happened injured person details first aid given
reporting safety issues in the workplace

and tell a designated person.
Sharps disposal
must be disposed as quickly as possible, in a hard, puncture resistant container. this eliminates any sharp injuries and blood diseases.
Hierarchy of control; 3 different levels what they consist of
LEVEL 3:
adminnistration controls (training)
PPE (protective glasses)
LEVEL 2:
substitution (replace with something that does same function but reduces level of harm)
isolation (create barrier between harm and others)
engineering controls (changing equipment)
LEVEL 1
Iimination (removing the whole hazard)
Duty of care
the legal requirement that should be taken to ensure everyone in the organisation is safe
environmental protection
ensure no harm comes to the environment from an organisation or business (noise or pollution)
risk minimisation
minimising the chance of taking that risk and something going wrong
Debriefing; what it is and why important
letting employee share their feelings after an accident, injury or loss. Important so employers can get out what they need to say and be supported while doing so
stress & fatigue signs and symptoms (8)
excessive yawning falling asleep at work can't concentrate short term memory loss upset and more teary then usual cold symptoms sore throat, runny nose skin breakouts being negative
benefits of stress managment
making sure employees wellbeing is at its maximum at all time is important so their work performances of tasks are better and fewer absences
