Oh Jerusalem Jerusalem Flashcards
What is the first point and what verses are covered?
Time is running out
Luke 13:1-9
What is the summary of Luke 13:1-9 (1st point)
Jesus told them they are no less sinners than those Galileans and emphasized their personal need to repent
Then he told a parable about a vineyard
What illustration is given first in point 1?
A famous plant known as the Hampton Court Vine in London is 240 year old grape vine whose roots are 200 feet away from the furthest bundle of grapes, produces 800 lbs of grapes with just one vine and if it’s not taken care of will die within 2 years
What is the breakdown of the parable of the vineyard?
- The fig tree represents the old covenant
- Jesus foreshadowed this when he cursed the fig tree in Mark 11:22
- Old covenant is not bearing fruit
- water it, fertilize it, and build a trench around it then it will bear fruit
- Titus 2:14 teaches that this was done through Jesus
What are the three examples of fruits?
- John 15 - the fruit of disciples
- Galatians 5 - fruits of the spirit
- Psalm 128- fruit of your labor
What is the explanation of “falling away vs. getting clipped” ?
- Some people think they are falling away but in reality they are getting clipped!
- they get clipped because they aren’t making disciples, changing in their character, or getting stuff done
What is the second point and what verses are covered?
In time the kingdom changes the world
Like 13:10-21

- the Pharisees were angry that Jesus did not take a day off
In the 2nd point what’s the breakdown of Luke 13:15-17
- Jesus’ opponents were humiliated when corrected by Jesus
- when you’re corrected you have two options
1. Delighted — accept correction and get fired up to change
2. Humiliated — be prideful and ashamed
In the 2nd point what illustration is given?
Yuni in the South region was born with body problems making her unable to run or talk like everyone else. She studied the Bible and was baptized now she never misses a meeting of the body while on a heavy metal wheelchair. “Whatever I have to do and whatever you have to do” attitude about being with God
What is the taught after the illustration about Yuni in the 2nd point?
- the law is not going to save you, Jesus will
- “overwhelmed” isn’t used in the Bible, “weak” is
- 2 Chronicles 16:9 teaches that commitment comes before strengthening
- this woman was committed for 18 years then Jesus healed her
In the 2nd point, what is taught about how we should view days off?
- it should be frustrating because we want to crank
- we cannot afford to be weak in a worldly way but in a Christian way
- seek advice, pray, read, and rely on God!
- people that don’t do these things, God will prune
In the 2nd point what is taught about Luke 13:18-21?
- Luke uses literary device of Balance
1. Man and woman — whole world
2. Large batch of dough — whole world
3. Birds of the air — all nations, whole world - the fig tree will be cut down, it won’t bear fruit
- a mustard seed of faith will replace it
What is the 3rd point and what verses are covered?
Time to Decide
Luke 13:22-35
