IMMINENT THREAT:
o Intent – poses a real danger and is otherwise unavoidable
o Means – weapon or physical force
o Opportunity – proximity, distance and time to carry out the threat
TACTICAL FLEXIBILITY
- don’t grow roots and get trapped in the loop
- box breathing
- create and maintain distance (reactionary gap)
- enhance perception of your personal safety
3 Subject Classifications
- Instrumental (high tolerance for police – wants to escape)
- Expressive (low tolerance for police)
- High Risk (zero tolerance)
De-Escalation
the use of verbal and non-verbal strategies, intended to prevent escalation or reduce the intensity of a situation without the application of force, and, if force is necessary, reducing the amount of force, if reasonably safe to do so.
What does NRA stand for?
N- Necessary
R- Risk affective
A – Acceptable (legal, moral, civil?)
ICEN
I - isolate
C - contain
E - evacuate
N – negotiate
TAGS
Target: where do you want to go? “what’s the goal/End state?”
Assess: why aren’t you there? “what’s the problem?”
Generate options: how are you going to get there? pros vs cons
Solution(s): what is the best option?
