Risk of developing diabetes in PCOS
2-5 fold normal person
Work up for primary ovarian insufficiency
measuring serum, cycle-day 3 follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and estradiol (E2), antimüllerian hormone (AMH)
as well as ruling out other causes of oligomenorrhea/amenorrhea including a pregnancy test, thyroid function tests, and serum prolactin.
Additional workup includes karyotype, FMR1 gene premutation, and a DEXA scan to check for osteoporosis due to the hypoestrogenic state
Contraindications to HSG
Pregnancy
Pelvic infection (even if the patient is receiving antibiotic therapy)
History of a severe reaction to iodinated contrast (seizure, cardiac arrest, cardiac arrhythmia, unconsciousness)
Active undiagnosed vaginal bleeding
Conditions Leading to Theca-Lutein Cyst Development
Complete hydatidiform mole
Multifetal gestation
Placentomegaly
Ovarian hyperstimulation as a result of assisted reproductive technology
