What are the Elements of Robbery?
- Theft
- Accompanied by violence
OR
Accompanied by threats of violence - To any person
OR
To any property - Used to extort the property stolen
OR
To prevent or overcome resistance to property being stolen
What defines an Aggravated Robbery?
- Causes GBH to any person
- Two or more offenders
- Armed with any offensive weapon
Define Assault with Intent to Rob?
Any person that assaults a person but no theft takes place. Theft unsuccessful
Define Demanding with Intent to Steal?
Threatens and demands property with intent to steal it
Explain “Theft”
Completed when property is taken by moving the property
Explain “Accompanied by Violence”
Violent behaviour before or at time of theft
Explain “Threats of Violence”
Threats of violence before at time of theft. Demonstration by conduct or words
Explain “Used to extort the property stolen”
Violence of threats used are sufficient to cause the other person to hand over the property against their will

Property is taken after any resistance to its taking has been prevented or overcome
