Calcifying Odontogenic cyst (Gorlin Cyst)

Can produce

Can be assoc with 2

Xray 6

Tx

A
  • Can produce a calcified product, making RO areas
  • Can be associated with other odontogenic tumors, especially odontomas
  • Can be assoc with unerpted tooth
  • Xray
    • Well defined radiolucent lesion
    • with or without RO areas
    • RO areas are surrounded by RL zone and corticated border
    • Can cause root resorption or divergence of adjacent roots, just like any other odontogenic cysts
    • 30% show radiopacities
    • 30% unerupted tooth
  • Tx
    • Surgery

Types

Key xray

tx

A
  • Commonly diagnosed odontogenic tumor
  • Better classified as hamartoma rather than tumor
  • Disorganized growth of enamel, dentin, cementum, and pulpal tissue
  • Young patients, slow growing
  • May be assoc with dentigerous cyst or prevent tooth eruption
  • Types
    • Compund: Multiple tooth like structures
    • Complex: Does not resemble tooth
  • Xray
    • RO area surrounded by RL line
  • Tx
    • COnservative surgical removal

Q

  • 65% pain and swelling
  • Diagnostic xray app
    • RO mass surrounded by RL line then RO line
    • Fused to tooth root and causes partial root resorption
