Odontogenic Mixed & RO Lesions Flashcards
1
Q
Odontogenic RL or Mixed lesions 5
A
- Calcifying Odontogenic cyst
- Adenomatoid odontogenic tumor
- Calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumor
- Ameloblastic fibro-odontoma (ALWAYS Mixed)
- Cemento-osseous dysplasia
2
Q
Calcifying Odontogenic cyst (Gorlin Cyst)
Can produce
Can be assoc with 2
Xray 6
Tx
A
- Can produce a calcified product, making RO areas
- Can be associated with other odontogenic tumors, especially odontomas
- Can be assoc with unerpted tooth
- Xray
- Well defined radiolucent lesion
- with or without RO areas
- RO areas are surrounded by RL zone and corticated border
- Can cause root resorption or divergence of adjacent roots, just like any other odontogenic cysts
- 30% show radiopacities
- 30% unerupted tooth
- Tx
- Surgery
3
Q
Calcifying Epithelial Odontogenic Tumor
Can produce
Xray
Tx
A
- May produce mineralized material
- xray
- Well defined, corticated, Mixed
- Tx
- Remove some normal bone surrounding lesion

Adenomatoid Odontogenic Tumor

Has
Xray
Tx
A
- Can produce mineralized product
- 2/3 tumor
- Females, teenagers, anterior, max, assoc with unerupted tooth
- Does not infiltrate bone
- Has ST capsule
- Xray
- Well defined, corticated
- Tx
- Easily excised

Ameloblastic Fibro-Odontoma

Xray 1
Tx
A
- Represents a developing odontoma
- Under the age of 20
- Does not infiltrate bone
- ALWAYS Mixed in xray
- Tx
- Conservative removal

Types
Key xray
tx
A
- Commonly diagnosed odontogenic tumor
- Better classified as hamartoma rather than tumor
- Disorganized growth of enamel, dentin, cementum, and pulpal tissue
- Young patients, slow growing
- May be assoc with dentigerous cyst or prevent tooth eruption
- Types
- Compund: Multiple tooth like structures
- Complex: Does not resemble tooth
- Xray
- RO area surrounded by RL line
-
Tx
- COnservative surgical removal
8
Q
Hamartoma
A
- Overgrowth of mature cells/tissue that normally occur in the affected part, but disorganized
- ex disorganized teeth in jaw: odontoma
- Stop growing when normal tissue stops growing
9
Q
Compound Odontoma
What
found
Xray2
A
- Multiple tooth like structures
- Typically found in anterior max but can occur anywhere
- Various radiopacities within central region
- Surrounded by RL line
10
Q
Complex Odontoma
what
Found
Xray2
A
- Does not ressemble tooth
- Typically found in posterior mandible but can occur anywhere
- Various radiopacities within central region
- Surrounded by RL line
11
Q
Cementoblastoma
what is it
symptoms
xray
tx
A
- Benign neoplasm of cementoblasts
- 65% pain and swelling
- Diagnostic xray app
- RO mass surrounded by RL line then RO line
- Fused to tooth root and causes partial root resorption
- Tx
- Surgical removal of tooth and root amputation with removal of lesoin
