Ocular Movements Flashcards
Cardinal Position
when only 1 muscle in each eye is responsible for movement
Field of Action
gaze to best observe a cardinal position
Agonist- Antagonist
pair of mm in same eye that move eye in opposite directions
Synergist Muscle
mm in same eye that move eye in same direction
Yoke Muscle
pair of mm (one each eye) that have conjugate eye movements
Sherrington Law
increased inn to one m = decreased inn to antagonist in the same eye
Hering Law
equal inn to both yoked mm
Primary Deviation
when unaffected eye is fixating
Secondary Deviation
when paretic/ restricted eye is fixating
Duction
rotation of one eye around axes of Fick
Version
conjugate eye movements/ rotation of both eyes
Conjugate Eye Movements
binocular movement where eyes move along same axis to maintain fixation
Vergence
disconjugate eye movement where eyes rotate in opposite directions
Convergence
both eyes rotate to maintain binocular fixation
Divergence
both eyes rotate out
