Ocular And Specular Accommodation Flashcards

1
Q

What is spectacle accommodation?

A

Considers the distance from the target to the spectacle plane
We don’t care about the power of the correcting lens
Once the patient is corrected we take the AS as the reciprocal of the distance from the target to the spectacle plane
The object for the eye (AS) is the image formed by the correcting lens

Q

What is the formula for ocular accommodation?

A

Vergence of light at the eye when viewing a distant object through the distance Rx
Minus
Vergence of light at the eye when viewing a near object under actual viewing conditions

Q

How does the actual stimulus to accommodation com[are between a corrected hyperope, corrected myope and emmetrope?

A

Corrected hyperope highest
Emmetrope middle
Corrected myope lowest

(CL correct to Emmetrope)

Q

Does the power of the correcting lens change the stimulus to accommodation?

A

Yes

Hyperopes have to accommodate more then myope when viewing a near target
Myope must accommodate more in CLs than in glasses, hyperope has to accommodate more in glasses

Q

What kind of vergence does a myope with minus spectacle lenses experience?

A

Base in prism moving the image outwards reducing the stimulus to vergence (the amount the eyes need to turn inwards)

Q

Describe the stimulus to vergence and accommodation for myopes in glasses vs contact lenses.
