OCMM Midline And Paired Bones Flashcards
Occiput, sphenoid, ethmoid, and vomer move how to eachother (which move the same)
Occiput + Ethmoid move the same
Vomer + Sphenoid move the same
Eustachian tube is where
Between temporal bone and sphenoid bone
Temporal exis location
Inferior to petrou ridge
Frontal bone has what special thing on it
Infants have the metopic suture dividing it in half that 10% people still have and can feel
Vault Contact where each finger goes**
- INDEX : greater wing of sephnoid
- MIDDLE : anterior to ear (temporal bone, in front of external auitory canal)
- RING : on mastoid process behind ear (below the auditory canal)
- PINKY : occiput
- THUMB : contact frontal / parietal bones
- PALM : rest on PARIETALS
Frontal Occipital Contact where are fingers
- Hand on occiput
2. Hand with thumb and middle finger / index(if reachable) on greater wing of spenoid , Palm rest on fronal bone
Becker Contact where are the fingers
Thumbs on greater wing of spenoid, all other fingers are behind ear (index on mastoid, middle to pinky occiput with middle behind occiitalmastoid suture), palms on parietal and occiput
Sidebenign 2 axes involved and what direction they go
- Sagittal (Ant + Post) = SAME direction as motion
2. Vertical (Inf + Sup) = OPPOSITE direction as motion
Sidebending direction does what
The side that gets bigger with fingers spreading apart
= side of sidebending
Vertical strains directions and how to know
Occiput and sphenoid move in SAME direction
- SUPERIOR : base spenoid up + Spenoid moves ANTERIORLY
- INFERIOR : base of sphenoid moves down + spenoid moves POSTERIORLY
Superior vs inferior strain with imagining holding a ball
Superior = rolls away from you Inferior = rolls towards you
Lateral Strains are what
Occiput and sphenoid move in SAME directions
- Base of sphenoid moving tells you the direction
- HANDS : hand that shows nail polish is the direction of the lateral strain (or hand with pinky finger is most lateral)
Compression is what and moves on what axis
Base of sphenoid gets compressed
- Sagittal axis
Compressoin can happen due to what
Depression + anxiety (tension in body + slows craniorhythmic impulse), trauma (hitting head)
Compression feels like
Many inconsistent movements (directions and strains)
