GAD
Excessive anxiety/worry for at least 6 months
Difficulty controlling worry
3 symptoms
- restlessness or on edge
- fatigued easily
- difficulty concentrating/irritability
- muscle tension
- sleep disturbance
multiple domains and intensity/duration needs to be out or proportion
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Presence of obsessions, compulsions, OR BOTH
obsessions= recurrent thoughts, images, or impulses that are intrusive or inappropriate and invoke anxiety **there is also an attempt to ignore or suppress through compulsions
compulsions= repetitive behaviors or mental acts that person feels driven to perform (ex counting, hand-washing, checking)
What is the difference between OCD and OCPD
OCD involves the obsessions and compulsions and ocpd is a personality disorder so it consists of traits causing the person to be obsessed about order, cleanliness, etc
Panic Disorder
UNEXPECTED periods of intense anxiety/fear around 10 minutes
physical symptoms
- racing heart
- shortness or breath
- dizziness
- nausea
- feelings of unreality
- fear they are dying
Persistent fear of getting panic attacks
Social Anxiety Disorder
Intense and persistent fear in social situations where embarrassment or negative evaluation by others can occur
Avoiding social situations
Recognize that fears are excessive or unreasonable
Specific Phobia
Excessive/irrational fears of a specific object or situation
Provokes immediate anxiety response and stimuli are avoided or endured with extreme stress
fear must be greater than others would likely experience
