Frequent intrusive and unwelcome obsessional thoughts, often followed by repetitive compulsions, impulses and urges

What are compulsions?
Repetitive physical behaviours and actions or mental thought rituals
What do people with OCD often realise about there obsessions?
People with OCD often realise that their obsessional thoughts are irrational
What are the behavioural characteristics of OCD?
Compulsions
Avoidance
What are the emotional characteristics of OCD?
Anxiety and distress (unpleasant emotions) Accompanying depression (low mood/lack of enjoyment in activities) Guilt and disgust (in themselves or something external)
What are the cognitive characteristics of OCD?
Obsessive thoughts (always unpleasant)
Cognitive strategises to deal with obsessions
Hyper-vigilant
