What are the 8 symptoms of clinical depression?
Change in eating pattern
Change in sleep pattern
Loss of energy/tiredness
Body slowed down or agitated
Loss of interest/pleasure in usual activities
Feelings of self-reproach, excessive or inappropriate guilt
Inability to concentration/think clearly
Recurrent thoughts of death/suicide or suicidal behaviour
What are the behavioural characteristics of depression?
Shift in activity levels (psychomotor agitation/lethargic)
Disruption to sleep/eating pattern
Aggression & self harm
What are the emotional characteristics of depression?
Anger
Lowered self-esteem/self-loathing
Lowered mood
Loss in interest/pleasure in hobbies
What are the cognitive characteristics of depression?
Dwelling on the negative
Poor concentration
Negative and irrational thoughts
Absolutist thinking (all good or all bad)
