There are numerous symptoms associated with OCD, but checking is the most common.
Checking in OCD
Checking is the process of recurrently ‘checking’ a physical object (e.g. that the door is locked). It may also refer to a worry and constant need to check (e.g. that a loved one is safe).
Checking is a compulsion (i.e. repetitive behaviour). Other common compulsions include counting, cleaning, arranging objects, hoarding, confessing, list making and touching objects. On the other hand, common obsessions include thoughts about contamination, safety, doubting one’s memory, need for order and scrupulosity (i.e. need to do the right thing).
