What are the behavioural characteristics of OCD

COMPULSIVE BEHAVIOUR
- they are repetitive
- They reduce anxiety, so compulsive hand washing in response to obsessive fear of germs
AVOIDANCE
-Reducing anxiety by keeping away from situations that trigger it

What are the emotional characteristics of OCD
A
- anxiety and distress, Obsessive thoughts can be unpleasant and frightening leading to overwhelming anxiety, and the urge to repeat behaviour creating is anxiety
- Depression which accompanies OCD
- Guilt and disgust

- obsessive thoughts
- excessive thoughts- Catastrophic thoughts about worst case scenario
- Hyper vigilant, we maintain constant alertness and keep attention focused on potential hazard

A
obsessions is defined as an idea or thought that preoccupied your mind which can lead to unwanted feelings
-compulsion are behaviours an individual does to get rid of this obsession
