Occupational adaption according to Nayar and Stanley (2015) is the overcoming of occupational challenges presented by occupational disruption or transition across the lifespan, which involves reconstruction of ones occupational identity and mastery of the environment and is negotiated through engagement in occupation.

Occupational science and occupational therapy share some similarities, however, they are distinct fields with distinct goals and approaches. Occupational science is an academic field that studies the nature of human occupation and its relationship to health and well-being, while occupational therapy is a health profession that uses that understanding to help individuals participate in the occupations that are important to them.
