ORM
a systematic , decision-making process used to idenify and manage hazards that endanger naval resources. 5 step process. I.A.M.I.S
Identify Hazards
begin with an outline or chart of the major steps in the operation or operational analysis. next list all the hazards associated with each step
Assess Hazards
determine the associated degree of risk
make risk decisions
develop risk control options. start with the most serious risk and select control to reduce risk to a minimum. decide if the benefit of the operation outweighs the risk.
implement controls
used to eliminate hazards or reduce the degree of risk; engineering contrl, admin control, and personnel protective equipment
supervise
conduct follow up elvaluations of the controls to ensure they remain in place. monitor for changes
mishap classes
three different classes of mishaps identified by the naval safey program
