Deprivation
- Forced by an external factor (social, economic, environmental, political, geographic).
- Prolonged preclusion from engagement in occupation.
Disruption
- Internal or individual circumstances
- Temporary (illness, life, stage, relocation).

- Sex-role Stereotyping
- Refugeeism
Disability & Deprivation
The disability does NOT cause deprivation.
The deprivation is caused by something or someone external to the individual;
-social exclusions
-environmental factors
-Laws or policies
Occupational Therapy Application
-Improving overall awareness of the importance of occupation in daily lives can lead to an better understanding of the negative effects of deprivation and disruption.

Using an Occupational Justice perspective helps us interpret social issues in the media & recognize the effects on local, national, or global occupations.

Make prospective funder’s/programs aware of the value & need for occupation.

Raises questions & considers solutions to change local conditions.

- if clients experience deprivation or disruption in their occupations it WILL effect your outcomes.
- It IS you professional responsibility to help them & advocate for them.
- If clients experience deprivation or disruption they are NOT alone.
