Q

Define: Maximal Intercuspal position (MIP)

-when is it used?

A
  1. the complete intercuspation of opposing teeth independent of the condylar position
  2. It is a highly reproducible guide for restoring the shape of natural teeth and for aligning and shaping artificial teeth for partially edentulous arches

Q

Define: Centric Relation (GPT)

A

The maxilla-mandibular relationship in which the condyles articulate with the thinnest, avascular part of their respective disks with the condylar-disc complex in the ANTERIOR SUPERIOR POSITION against the slopes of the articulators eminences
-this position is INDEPENDENT of TOOTH CONTACT

Q

Define: Centric Relation (Dawson)

A

CR is the relationship of the mandible to the maxilla, when properly aligned, condyle-disc assemblies are in the most superior position against the eminentiae, irrespective of vertical dimension or tooth position

  • at the most superior position, the condyle-disc assemblies are braced medially, thus CR is also at the midmost position
  • a properly aligned condyle-disc assembly in CR can resist maximum loading by the elevator muscles with no sign of discomfort
