what is centric relation ?

A

an orthopedic position indépendant of tooth contact
the condyle articulates in the anterior-superior position
against the posterior slopes of the articular eminence

Q

What is the working side?

A

The side the mandible moves towards on lateral excursive movements
the condyle on this side is vertically rotated

Q

What is the non working side

A

the side the mandible moves away from on lateral excursion

progressive side shift is in the path on non-working side

16
Q

what does the condylar guidance angle relate to?

A

The articulators condylar guidance angle

17
Q

what is the retruded arc of closure?

A

the rotational movement of the mandible when the condyles are seated in centric rotation

18
Q

Anterior(protrusive) guidance

A

the influence of the contacting anterior teeth limiting mandibular movements

19
Q

What is canine guidance?

A

excursive movements of the mandible are influenced by the horizontal and vertical overlap of the canine teeth which disclose the posterior teeth

20
Q

what is group function?

A

multiple contacts between the mandibular and maxillary teeth in lateral movement on the working side.
simultaneous contact of multiple teeth act as a group to distribute occlusal force

21
Q

what is deflective contact ?

A

An occlusal contact which alters the direction of mandibular movement during closure into the intercuspal position

22
Q

what is occlusal interference?

A

any tooth that inhibits the remaining occluding surfaces from achieving stable contacts

23
Q

what is a border movement ?

what does it form

A

the movement of the mandible to any extreme of its range

forms posselts envelope

24
Q

What is carried out in the functional pathway

A

chewing and swallowing

25
Q

What are the posterior occlusal contacts

ie functional and non-functional cusps

A

Functional cusp = if no cross bite palatal cusp of the maxillary posterior teeth
buccal cusps of the mandibular posterior teeth make contact when closing in ICP with the fossa or the marginal ridge of the opposing teeth

26
Q

What is mutually protective occlusion / articulation?

A

the teeth are in groups for mutual protection

on closing into ICP there is bilateral stimulated even contacts on squeezing the posterior teeth together which taken the force down the long-axis of the tooth

other anterior teeth have light contacts and are not subject to heavy biting forces in ICP

in excursive movement the posterior teeth do not touch and are protected

27
Q

what is canine guidance occlusion-

A

all posterior tooth movement is guided by canines

this may be due to a large canine ramp
