Occipital Lobes Flashcards
What is the primary function of the occipital lobe?
Vision.
Which Brodmann areas make up the occipital lobe?
Areas 17, 18, and 19.
What is V1, and what does it process?
V1 is the primary visual cortex, located at the back of the brain, and processes basic visual information like light and orientation.
What types of cells are in V1?
Simple cells
orientation cells
Direction cells
What do simple cells do?
Respond to light in specific areas
What do orientation cells do?
Respond to the orientation of light
What do direction cells do
respond to movement of light in a specific direction
What is the function of V2?
It separates visual processing into:
Thin stripes: Color perception.
Thick bands: Form perception.
Pale stripes: Motion perception.
