Obturation & Coronal Seal Flashcards
1
Q
What method is most commonly used for obturation of a root canal?
A
Cold lateral compaction
2
Q
What is the use of a master GP point?
A
To completely fit at apical collar
3
Q
What methods of obturation are there?
A
- Cold lateral compaction
- Warm vertical compaction
- Continuos wave compaction
- Carrier based obturation
4
Q
At which anatomical landmark should GP and resin sealer be removed?
A
Anteriors = ADJ Posteriors = canal orifice
5
Q
Outline the cold lateral compaction technique
A
- Select GP master point (corresponds with master apical file) = fits apical collar ‘tug back’ sensation felt
- XR to confirm at correct position
- Coat walls of canal with sealer using small file
- Insert master GP covered in sealer
- Condense with finger spreader 1mm short of AWL for 20s (allows space for accessory GP) –> repeat until canal is full
- Excess GP cut off with heated instrument at base of pulp chamber. Remainder packed vertically with cold plugger to 1mm below ACJ
6
Q
What material is used for a coronal seal following RCT?
A
GIC –> definitive restoration
