A
New-onset hypertension after 20 weeks gestation with features of end-organ involvement.
- BP > 140/90
- Proteinuria
- Oedema

A
- Headache
- Visual disturbance (flashing lights)
- Upper abdominal pain
- Vomiting
- Swelling of hands, feet or face
- Significant proteinuria
- BP >140/90

High-risk factors for pre-eclampsia
A
- CKD
- Diabetes
- Autoimmune disease
- Chronic hypertension
- Hypertension during a previous pregnancy

Moderate-risk factors for pre-eclampsia
A
- First pregnancy
- Age > 40
- Pregnancy interval > 10 years
- BMI > 35
- Multiple pregnancy
- FHx pre-eclampsia

Prevention of pre-eclampsia
A
- Aspirin
- From 12 weeks until delivery
- 1 high-risk feature or 2 moderate-risk features

Treatment of hypertension in pregnancy
A
- Labetalol
- or nifedipine
- Aim for BP <135/85

Treatment of severe pre-eclampsia or eclampsia
A
- Magnesium sulfate infusion
- Delivery if > 34 weeks gestation
- Corticosteroids for fetal lung development
