Obsessive-compulsive disorder
Represented by a diverse group of symptoms that include intrusive thoughts, rituals, preoccupations and compulsions.
The obsessions or complusions are time consuming and interfere significantly with the persons normal routine, occupation, social activities or relationships.
Obsession vs Compulsion
Obsession: A recurrent and intrusive thought, feeling, idea, feeling or sensation
Compulsion: is a behavior. Such as counting, checking or avoiding.

- Most common pattern
Obsession of contamination, eg patients may literally rub their skin off their hands by excessively washing their hands or never leave the home in fear of germs
Pathological Doubt
second most common pattern.
- Obsession of doubt and compulsion of checking
eg. Forgetting to turn the stove off or locking the door.
Obsessional self doubt
Intrusive Thoughts
3rd most common pattern.
Intrusive obsessional thoughts without compulsion
Usually repetitive thoughts of sexual or aggressive acts
Symmetry
The need for precision, such as taking hours to eat a meal or shave their face.
