A
- Researcher joins in with the activity going on or recruits someone to
- Observer is in the group

A
Observer is watching from the outside, not a part of the study

A
- Observers are given the behavioural categories
- Most are structured

What is an unstructured observation?
A
- Observe first, then record what they see
- Good for time sampling

What is event sampling?
A
Tallying the behavioural categories every time the behaviour occurs within a set period of time

What is time sampling?
A
- Recording any behaviours which occur in a given set of time intervals
- e.g recording what happened for 1 minute every 30 minutes for an afternoon/day
