OBS: Antenatal Care -- Infection Screening Flashcards
Interpretation of EIA +ve, VDRL -ve
EIA +ve indicates past infection
VDRL -ve indicates adequately treated syphilis / late latent syphilis
2 Treatment regime for late latent syphilis
- Benzathine penicillin IM weekly for 3w
- Procaine penicillin IM daily + Probenecid QID for 15d
Other investigations required at the same time of syphilis treatment
STD screening: Triple swab
1. HVS for trichomonas
2. Endocervical swab for gonorrhoea, chlamydia
+ Contact tracing
How to confirm the complete eradication of syphilis?
Serial monitoring of VDRL titre
2 Treatment regime for primary / early latent syphilis
- Benzathine penicillin IM single dose
- Procaine penicillin IM daily for 10d
USG signs for neonatal syphilis infection
no obvious USG features as the bacteria does not cause structural malformation
Management if Rubella IgG is -ve
Postnatal Rubella vaccination
Management if HBsAg is +ve
-
if +ve
further check LFT & HBV DNA to consider antiviral therapy
-
HBV DNA ↑
Antiviral therapy (Tenofovir) to mother [start from 28~30w] - HBIg IM single dose to neonates within 12h of birth
- HBV vaccination to neonates
