Integrity, honesty*
To ensure the patients safety we must do the right things at all times and tell the truth. It very important to have the courage to voice your thoughts to other people that way when a bad situation arrives everyone will be able to help you identify the issues and work as a team to find a better solution.
Quick, accurate, precise*
Surgical procedures requires speed, accuracy, and precision when administering medication, passing instruments and assembling equipment.
Emotionally stable*
Surgical techs will encounter difficult/unfavorable situations so it very important to “keep our cool” in these situations and not lose your temper. Always keep a clear mind that way you will be able to think clearly in case an emergency happens.
Accepts criticism positively*
There are times when harsh criticism will help you improve so it is very important to not let any harshness blind you making your decisions.
Flexible, adaptable*
Things changes quickly in the OR including room assignments, emergency cases, etc. As surgical techs we must be open to new ideas and show that we have the ability and willingness to respond to these situations. Being adaptable allows you to modify or change your routines in order to suit your situations.
Able to prioritize*
Always plan ahead but make sure to do the task that needs to be done first. By identifying which task was the most important you can give those more of your attention, energy, and time.
Function safely under stress*
We sometimes encounter chaotic situations to ensure the patient’s safety to counteract these situations we must be able to keep our minds clear to be able to think clearly and make sound decision.
Desire to continue learning*
Surgical procedures are continuously being develop. It is very important to continue your education to expand your knowledge so that you will be able to respond to the changes in the OR.
Strong work ethic*
Always stay on task because there is a lot of work that needs to be done everyday. By completing your goals it shows your willingness and determination to work hard.
Team player*
Each member of the team must be able to communicate and Work effectively to achieve the best safe patient care
Dependable, prompt*
No one can do your job for you so it is very important to make sure that you get to work on time or a few minutes early, detail oriented, support and offer to help in order to complete tasks more quickly. By doing so it makes. you appear reliable and trustworthy, therefore allowing other people to depend and count on you.
