Objective 1.1 - 1.4: Mobile Devices Flashcards
Common batteries are
Lithium-ion (Li-ion) and Lithium-ion polymer (LiPo)
What memory module is Used in laptops and mobile devices
Small Outline Dual inline Memory Module (SO_DIMM)
2.5 form factors for laptops and 3.5 inch for desktops
Magnetic disk
2.5-inch form factors, a memory card that is silent, fast and less latency
Solid State Drive (SSD)
What memory module is a Small form factor with No SATA data or power cables
M.2
What process is this?
Install an OS on the SSD:
- move user documents between drives and install applications
Migrating from HDD to SSD
What process is this?
Image/clone the HDD:
- no OS installation required
- move everything form one to the other
Migrating from HDD to SSD
What numbers provide the Local area network (LAN) provides high speed internet access
802.11
Personal area network (PAN) provides short-range
Bluetooth
sign in or unlock your laptop with a fingerprint reader or face recognition
Biometrics
Short distance networking that works less than 4 centimeters for data transfers or authentication
Near Field Communication (NFC)
light shines through liquid crystals
Advantages:
- lightweight, low power, and affordable
Disadvantages:
- Black levels are challenging and require separate backlight
Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)
The original LCD technology
Advantages:
- Fast response times for gaming
Disadvantages:
- poor viewing angles from color shifting
Twisted Nematic (TN)
Advantages:
- Excellent color representation
Disadvantages:
- More expensive to produce than TN
In Plane Switching (IPS)
Good compromise between TN and IPS
Advantages:
- Good color representation
Disadvantages:
- slower response times than TN
Vertical Alignment (VA)
- Organic compound emits light when receiving an electric current
- Thinner and lighter because no of glass
- no backlight and more common on tablets, phones, and smartwatches
- Great color representation but more expensive
Organic light Emitting Diode (OLED)
Video capture that has a built-in camera and microphone
Webcam
- Higher voltage and power needed and added thickness to the display
- no backlight and used for older laptops
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (CCFL)
- Backlight is LEDS instead of florescent and LEDS are around the edge of the screen
- An array of LEDs behind the screen and comes with newer laptops
LED-backlit LCD display
- LCD displays need a backlight and some laptops have inverters to turn DC into AC
- Verify backlight: use a flashlight and look closely
Backlight and inverter
