Q

3 stages of object recognition

A

Local features - extract local features such as edges and contrast

Shape representation- gestalt principles come into place and feature integration. Integrate things into basic features such as edges into corners to form simple shapes

Object representation- recognise by what we know as familiar , stored representations

What is bottom up prcessss

A

Focussed on incoming sensory input. Goes to retina and visual cortex

Q

Shapes appear different because of what?

A

Hard boundary - line separating them assumes they are different objects and emphasises differences in colour

Apparently source of shade. - visual systems that things looks different in shade and darker so tries to compensate and increase brightness

Q

What did mar 1982 say about shape perception?

A

Bottom up processes cause primal sketches which are integrated into huge primitives

Top down - group primitives into lines , curves larger blobs ( symbolic primitives)
