Benign tumours in or around the uterus

What are uterine fibroids made of?
A
Mixture of fibroblasts and smooth muscle cells which form hard, round, “whorled” tumours in the myometrium (muscular layer of the uterus)

What increases fibroid growth?
A
Increased levels of oestrogen and progesterone

When to fibroids commonly regress?
A
After menopause due to low oestrogen

What is it called when a subserosal or submucosal uterine fibroids grows on a stalk and extends away from the myometrium?
