What are the causes if obesity

A

Energy-dense foods are now widely consumed, including high-fat fast foods

Fewer children walk to school; transport in cars has increased; less time at school is spent doing physical activities; and children spend more time in front of small screens (video games,
mobile phones, computers, and television), rather than playing outside.

What is the treatment and complications of obesty?

A

healthier eating – regular meals; eating together as a family; choosing nutrient-rich foods that are lower in energy and glycaemic index

increased vegetable and fruit intake; healthier snack food options; decreased portion sizes; drinking water as the main beverage; reduction in sugary drink intake;

least 60 minutes of moderate or greater intensity physical activity is recommended each day

limiting television and other small screen recreational activity to less than 2 hours per day

Orlistat is a lipase inhibitor which reduces the absorption of dietary fat and thus produces steatorrhoea. It should not be used for children under 12 years, but may be indicated if there are comorbidities (e.g. orthopaedic, sleep apnoea) or severe psychological disturbance.
