Mores
Rules of Morality; things that would offend someone of a culture.
Ex. Eating spaghetti with your hands.
Differential Association
Association with deviant people makes you deviant, which can sometimes inspire change.
Ex. MLK fighting for the rights of African Americans that inspired a social change.
Anomie
Society doesn’t provide enough moral guidance for an individual. Or not having the regular kind of standards as an individual in society.
Norms
Use to guide behaviors of the culture members in any situation.
Labeling Theory
Labeling people makes them conform or deviate.
Social Control
Helps to create conformity when internalization/socialization have failed.
Ex. Punishment and paying fines.
Formal Deviance
Requires legal sanctions.
Folkway
Conventions/Customers: Social Guidelines.
Ex. Burping loudly at dinner.
Group Polarization
People who share the same beliefs go into a group and leave with an even more extreme version of the belief.
Socialize
To teach children norms and values.
Strain Theory
Society structures can pressure people into crimes, especially the lower-class.
Deviance
Violation of Social Norms

Breaking social sanctions or stigmas.
