Pitocin (Oxytocin) MOA/ROUTE
IV slow titrated drip: for induction
IM/IV: for postpartum bleeding
Nubain PRE, ROUTE, CONTRA
pre: assess resp status
route: IV for pain relief in labor
contra: do NOT given if delivery in next hour or past 8cm (crosses placental barrier = resp distress in infant)
PRECAUTIONS: will make pt confused/high/drunk- FALL RISK
Duramorph MOA, CONTRA
moa: pain relief
contra: resp depression (antidote)
Magnesium Sulfate MOA, PRE, S/SX
moa: seizure prec, lower BP, and preterm labor
pre: assess reflexes
s/sx: feel yucky
CHECK FOR MAG TOXICITY- calcium gluconate at bedside!!
Methergine MOA, ROUTE,PRE
pre: check maternal BP = increase VS
moa: postpartum bleeding
route: IM
Hemabate ROUTE, MOA, S/SX, CONTRA
route: IM
moa: postpartum bleeding
s/sx: diarrhea
contra: do NOT give to mother c asthma
Cytotec MOA, ROUTE
-vaginally = induction
-rectally = postpartum hemorrhage
-sublingual = postpartum hemorrhage
Tranexamic Acid ROUTE, MOA
EXTREME emergency if med needed
moa: tx severe hemorrhage
route: IV
