Nubain PRE, ROUTE, CONTRA

A

pre: assess resp status
route: IV for pain relief in labor
contra: do NOT given if delivery in next hour or past 8cm (crosses placental barrier = resp distress in infant)
PRECAUTIONS: will make pt confused/high/drunk- FALL RISK

moa: seizure prec, lower BP, and preterm labor
pre: assess reflexes
s/sx: feel yucky
CHECK FOR MAG TOXICITY- calcium gluconate at bedside!!
