A: monitor F&E levels; assess for abdominal distention & bowel function; may cause abdominal pain, cramps; don’t use 1-hour after use of milk product

A

Allergy, anaphylaxis, motion sickness; nighttime sleep aid; non-productive cough

A: assess allergies, sleep patterns, cough, lung sounds; assess anticholinergic effects (dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, sedation); take with food or milk to reduce GI distress; avoid hazardous activities

A: use occasionally, no longer than 1 week; do not use OTC formulas >7 days or when and pain, NV are present

A

Abnormal uterine bleeding due to hormonal imbalance; secondary amenorrhea; endometrial hyperplasia; contraception; endometriosis-associate pain; inoperable, recurrent, metastatic endometrial, renal cancer

A: can cause significant loss of bone mineral density; monitor for pain, swelling, warmth, redness in calves; sudden, severe HA; visual disturbances; numbness in extremities; s/s of depression; s/s liver dysfunction

Prevent PE, DVT after hip or knee replacement surgery; abdominal surgery

A: monitor pregnant women who have received epidural for change in LOC; draw blood for baseline coagulation parameters (PT, PTT); monitor for s/s bleeding or abnormal bruising

SE: confusion, fever, nausea, diarrhea, dyspnea, edema

A: give with antiemetics, anti diarrheals to reduce GI effects; peaks at 15-60 mins, lasts for 24-hours

SE: HA, chest pain, flushing, NVD, diaphoresis, arrhythmias, chills, cramping
