What are the risk factors for developing ovarian cancer?
Nulliparity, family history, early menarche, late menopause, white race, increasing age, and residence in North America and Northern Europe.
By how much does the five year cumulative use of OCPs decrease the rate of ovarian cancer development?
By half - OCPs suppress ovulation
What ovarian tumor is associated with endometrial hyperplasia?
Granulosa cell tumor (estrogen secreting)
What is the standard management for ovarian cancer?
Tumor debulking followed by post-operative chemotherapy with a combination of a taxane and platinum adjunct
What is the most common tumor found in women of all ages?
A dermoid tumor - the median age of occurrence is 30 years, and 80% of the tumors occur during the reproductive years
Is vaginal estrogen cream contraindicated in a woman with a previous breast cancer diagnosis?
Yes
What cancers does breastfeeding lower the risk of?
Ovarian, and some studies show decreased breast cancer risk
What are common presenting symptoms of choriocarcinoma?
Recent pregnancy of hydatidiform mole, amenorrhea or abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pain/pressure, enlarged uterus/uterine mass, lung symptoms (e.g. chest pain, hemoptysis, dyspnea). Pt will have elevated hCG.
What percentage of dermoid tumors are bilateral?
10%
What percentage of serous carcinoma of the ovary is bilateral?
33%
