Magnesium Sulfate
- Prevent seizures w/Pre-eclampsia
- Tocolytic to slow/stop pre-term labor
Signs of Magnesium Toxicity
- Loss of (absent) DTRs
- Oliguria <12
- Pulmonary edema
- Chest pain
Nifedipine (Procardia)
CCB used for tocolysis to stop/slow preterm labor
Terbutaline “Brethine”
Tocolytic used for:
- External version
- Stop/slow preterm labor
- Increase FHR & MHR
Betamethasone
Corticosteroid used to speed fetal lung maturation for premature delivery.
Series of 2 injections given
Penicillin G
Given to treat both mother and fetus if mother has syphillis.
Ancef
Given to mother who has had PPROM.
Bicitra
Antacid given to mother prior to c-sec to lower gastric pH and prevent aspiration.
Butorphanol (Stadol)
Opioid analgesic
Oxytocin (Pitocin)

Cytotec (MIsoprostol)

Vitamin K
Promotes the formation of blood clotting factors. Given within the first hour of life.
*Give prior to males being circumcised.
Erythromycin Opthalmic Ointment
A ribbon of ointment is applied to lower conjunctival sac of the newborn’s eyes within the first hour of life as prophylactic prevent Gonorrhea & Chlamydial infections.
Hepatitis B Vaccine
- Prevention of Heb B in exposed & unexposed infants
- Injection site = Vastis lateralis
- Give in first 12hrs, AFTER first bath to prevent contamination from maternal blood on the infant’s ski n.
Naloxone (Narcan)
Opiate antagonist
