What is the purpose of the OASC?

A

Recruits can see if RAF life is right for them.

Gives staff a chance to assess aptitude, physical fitness and capacity to succeed in future training.

Who does the assessing?

A

Two-person selection board comprised of experienced RAF officers.
The board president will have the final say.

What activities take place?

A
  1. Computer Based Aptitude Test, results will be assessed against skills most important for the career selected.
  2. Exercise phase - 5 exercises in a group with 3-to-5 other candidates to show leadership skills.
  3. Interview with instructors. Discuss achievements so far, motivation for joining.
  4. Occupational medical.
  5. Fitness test.
    Results will be received 3/4 weeks later after assessing officers discuss with board president.

A

Military Induction Module
- Basic military skills (broadly similar to non-commissioned recruits @ RAF Halton). Inc. general service knowledge, foot drills, first aid, physical training and education, military ethos.

MIOT Week 7 - 12

A

Developmental Module 1

  • Relational, Individual and Collaborative learning
  • Focus on leadership and mental and physical resilience.
  • Trip to Robson Resilience Academy to use adventure training to develop leadership.
  • Education on Air and Space Power
  • Ends with 1 week exercise where students live in austere environment practicing leading teams in a deployed military scenario.

MIOT Week 13 - 18

A

Developmental Module 2

  • Explore leadership, focus on Command and Control (C2)
  • C2 Exercise midway where these skills are practically applied.
  • Cohort then splits into 3 to complete a carousel of disciplines
    1) Air C2, taught at Air and Space Warfare Centre, Waddington
    2) Line Management responsibilities, e.g. staff appraisal, interview technique, military law
    3) Care and Welfare in Leadership, taught by Padres, students learn to support staff and protect their wellbeing.

MIOT Week 19 - 24

A

Consolidation Module, split into Consolidation and Transition & Graduation
Students undertake the following over 4 weeks:
1) Air C2 Exercise
2) Management Simulated Exercise
3) Academic Assessments - Air and Space power, general service knowledge
4) Deployment, Grantown-on-Spey
Scores here + RISE determine if you graduate, re-train or are removed.
