MSO Initial Commission?
12 years. You can also be selected for a pension earning commission of 20 years’ service during this time.
Promotions?
To Flight Lieutenant on a time and satisfactory service basis.
Squadron Leader and above is decided by competitive selection.
Ongoing Development?
Option to study for diploma, degree and MSc level qualifications.
Leadership and management training.
Encouraged to join a professional body, e.g. Institute of Healthcare Management.
What is the role of a Medical Support Officer?
Provide Health Service Support (HSS) to the Royal Air Force Medical Services and the wider Defence Medical Services.
This can include: regional management of operations, medical logistics, designing and delivering medical training.
