OA IN THE C SPINE Flashcards
What is OA in the C spine also known as ?
Cervical Spondylosis.
Characteristics of OA in the C spine ?
Narrowed intervertebral disc spaces and osteophyte formation.
What is the difference between a sydesmophytes and osteophytes ?
Osteophytes grow horizontally and syndesmophytes grow vertically.
What is a Syndesmophyte ?
They are bony outgrowths from ligaments as they attach to adjacent vertebral bodies.
What two diseases do sydesmocytes usually grow ?
Reiters syndrome and psoaratic arthritis.
What is Degenerative cervical Myelopathy ?
This is spinal chord dysfunction due to compression in the neck e.g. osteophyte formation.
What can degenerative change in C spine cause ?
Changes in spinal alignment. e.g. increased kyphosis or dysphagia from osteophyte formation.
