O2 Therapy and Ostomies' Flashcards
4 Main types of O2 Therapy
NC
Plastic facemask with reservoir bag
Simple face mask’
Venturi Mask
Percentage of )2 in room air is
21%
FiO2
Fraction of inspired O2
For every liter of O2 increased the corresponding FiO2 percentage increases by
4%
NC delivers how much O2 per minute
bw 1 and 4
Where can skin breakdown when using NC
Around the ears
Simple face masks for
Short term therapy
Fits loosely and delivers concentrations of 40 – 60 %
Partial and full rebreather masks
Minimum flow rate of 10 L/min delivers 60- 80 % O2.
For more intensive trauma situatiosn
Venturi mask
High flow
For weaning patients from O2 therapy
Helpful for patients with COPD
Colour of flow meter in Canada
Green
Where do you read from on the flow meter
The middle of the ball
Signs that a patient might require suctioning
Obstruction of the upper airway.
Increased secretions in the upper airway or the mouth.
Increased mucousy cough.
Decreased O2 saturation or increased respiratory rate or effort, with or without cyanosis.
Gurgling, drooling and a cough that does not help in clearing secretions.
Yankauer catheter
Continuous suctioning for use in oral cavity
Only apply suction for how long
No longer than you can hold your breath
Appropriate predsure for suctioning in an adult
