Deadly Force
Force that is likely to cause, or that a person knows or should know would create a substantial risk of causing, death or serious bodily harm or injury.
Justification for Deadly Force
- Self-defense and defense DoD personnel.
- Defense of Others.
- Assets vital to National Security.
- Inherently dangerous property.
- National critical infrastructure.
- Arrest or apprehension and escape.
- Defending against vicious animals.
Deadly Force Triangle
Opportunity: Is established when a weapon or explosive device is in effective range to cause death or serious bodily harm to DoD personnel or designated assets. (Has a weapon).
Capability: Ability or means to inflict death or serious bodily harm, or the “hands-on” ability to place or attach explosives or vital assets, or high value assets. (Is within range to use the at weapon).
Intent: The desire or willingness to cause death, or serious bodily harm or damage to vial assets. (Display hostile action).
