What is a clear liquid diet and what does this diet provide?
See through liquids only, provides hydration and calories in form of simple carbohydrates
What is a full liquid diet and what does it provide?
It is opaque; provides limited nutrients (Ex: milk, pudding and ice cream)
What is a mechanical soft diet and why are pts usually on this and what does it lack?
Soft foods such as eegs and cottage cheese; unable to chew , teeth missing or exhausted pts; lacks fiber
What is a puréed diet?
Thicker than full liquid usually prepared in blender
What is a diabetic diet used for?
Manage calorie and carb intake for diabetics
What pt goes on calorie restricted diet?
Pt who must lose weight
What is a sodium restricted diet used for?
Pts with HTN, CHF, kidney/renal failure
People who experience problems with fat malabsorption are on what diet?
Fat restricted
Renal disease pts are given this diet.
Renal
What pts are given a protein restricted diet?
Pts with liver/kidney disease
What does a High Calorie/High Protein help?
Wound healing, growth promotion and maintaining weight

Pts who can not tolerate large meals

What are symptoms of Hypoglycemia?
Clammy skin, shakiness, nausea, increased irritability, confusion, dizziness, headache , weakness, possible seizures
What are symptoms of Hyperglycemia?
Increased thirst / dry mouth, hot, dry flushed skin, frequent urination, fruity smelling breath, confusion, coma, and death
What is a HgA1C?
3 month test for glucose ; less than 6 not diabetic
What is Anorexia Nervosa?
Excessive leanness, or wasting of body also known as emaciation
What is Bulimia Nervosa?
Binge eating and purging
What is a Binge eater?
Someone who eats large amounts of food
What is a common NI tube used ?
Dobhoff
What is a Salam Sump?
Double Leuman ; has air vent tube
What is a Levin tube?
One leuman does not have air vent

What is Gastric Decompression?
Reduces pressure within the stomach by emptying its contents.
