- provides HEALTH information
- focuses on improving systems of SURVEILLANCES
What is NIH responsible for?
- FUNDS RESEARCH on NUTRITION- related chronic diseases and other associated areas
Describe the basic tenants of a healthy diet
Food groups- make half your whole grains, fruits, vegetable group, lean protein, and dairy
Describe the complexity and determinants of food choices.

ex) provides ESSENTIAL vitamins and minerals

no, the package labels are “SILENT” on sugar
Discuss the reasons for limiting consumption of sodium.
- 1.65 million deaths from CVD occurred as a result of excess sodium consumption
- correlation between sodium consumption
Discuss the controversies in labeling sugar content as a daily value?
- perceived benefits
- amount of sugar is not fully written on the labels
- sometimes there is actually more sugar in the product than what it says on the label
