Carbohydrates
Macronutrient that is the preferred fuel source for high-intensity exercise and CNS.
Can be simple, which increases blood glucose levels quickly, or complex, which increase glucose levels much more slowly.
Fats
Energy reserve in body and primary fuel source for low intensity exercise.
Can be saturated, monounsaturated, or polyunsaturated. Saturated often found in animal products and increase LDLs. Unsaturated fats found in plants and increase HDLs.
Proteins
Adults should consume 0.8 grams of protein per kg of body weight.
Made up of amino acids, 20 types, 9 of which cannot be produced by body and must be consumed.
Fat soluble vitamins
Vitamin A, D, E, K.
Water soluble vitamins
Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin), B3 (Niacin), B6 (Pyridoxine), B12 (Cobalamin), C, biotin, choline, folacin (folic acid), and pantothenic acid.
