Basal Metabolism:
Minimum amount of energy required by the body to maintain essential body functions (body temp, muscle tone and respiration)
Carbohydrates:
Simple sugars such as sugar and honey
Complex Compounds such as cereals and potatoes
Dietary Fiber:
Non digestible carbohydrates (cellulose, lignin and pectin) found in plants

Proteins:
A molecule composed of amino acids, eight of which are considered essential to the biological processes of cells in adults.

Organic compounds that do not easily dissolve in water. Based on solubility, they are classified as triglycerides (fats), phospholipids or sterols.
Water:
Second only to oxygen in importance to life.
Minerals:
Inorganic materials. Major Minerals: Calcium: milk, cheese, sardines, salmon, green veggies Phosphorus: milk, cheese, lean meat Potassium: oranges, bananas, dried fruits Sulfur: eggs, poultry, fish Sodium: table salt, beef, eggs, cheese Chloride: table salt, meat Magnesium: green veggies, whole grain
