what does a nutritional assessment include?
interview and anthropometric measurements (height, weight, BMI)
BMI categories
< 18.5 underweight. 18.5-24.9 healthy weight. 25-29.9 overweight. > 30 obese
what waist circumference indicates increased risk of diabetes or cardiovascular disease?
> 35 inches for women. > 40 for men
what is a bad waist hip ratio?
> .90 for males. > .85 for females
Signs of anorexia
loss of energy, amenorrhea, bruise easily, wear baggy clothes, decreased HR, diminished reflexes
what are some history questions you should ask for nutrition?
# of times a week meat is eaten # of pieces of fruit # of meals away from home # of meals # of times a week fish, chicken, or turkey are eaten # of desserts what type of drinks
warnings signs of poor nutritional health
illness that made a patient change kind/amount of food eaten
fewer than 2 meals a day
few fruits, vegetables, and milk products
three or more drink of ETOH

eat alone and unable to cook or shop
