amino acids which are essential for our bodies
What is HBV?
High biological value proteins like fish meat milk cheese eggs and soya beans.( high in essential amino acids)
What is LBV
Low biological value proteins like nuts cereals and pulses
What provides the body with energy?
Carbohydrates
What are the two main carbohydrates?
Complex which gives long lasting energy found in bread pasta and cereals
simple makes blood sugar go up very quickly -short bursts of energy found in cakes jams and sweets
what do the body use fat for?
energy
an insulation layer under skin to keep you warm
used to protect your organs
Name the 2 types of fat?
saturated in meat butter cheese
unsaturated in seeds fish and vegetable oils- generally healthier
What is Vitamin A for?
good vision - fish eggs butter oranges dark green veg
What is vitamin B group for?
releasing energy from carbs - cereals meat and fish
What is vitamin C used for?
fighting disease helps body to absorb iron - oranges peppers tomato and green veg potato
What is vitamin D used for?
helps make strong bones and teeth - eggs and oily fish
What does the body use the mineral iron for?
make red blood cells (not enough you can suffer with anaemia) - in red meat and green veg
What does the body use calcium for?
for strong bones ( lack of can lead to osteoporosis)
