What are fats?
fats are a type of nutrient that you get from your diet. Some fats are essential, though it can be harmful to eat too much. Fats can help absorb vitamins A, D and E. Sources of unsaturated fats include nuts and seeds.
What is protein?
Protein is a macronutrient that is essential to building muscle mass. It is commonly found in animal products such as meat or eggs, though it is also present in other sources such as nuts and legumes.
What are carbohydrates?
Carbs are sugar molecules. Along with proteins and fats, carbs are one of the 3 main nutrients found in food and drinks. Carbs are broken down to glucose - this is the main source of energy for body cells, tissues and organs.
What is sugar?
Sugars are the type of a simple carbohydrate. They have a sweet taste. Sugars can be found naturally in fruits, vegetables, milk and milk products. They can also be added to food during prep or processing.
Types include; glucose, fructose and sucrose.
Sugar should be less that 5% of the daily intake
What is sodium?
Excess salt can lead to high blood pressure
What is vitamin A?
A nutrient important to vision, growth, cell division, reproduction and immunity. Vitamin A also has antioxidant properties - Skin and eyes
What is vitamin B?
Plays a vital role in maintaining good health and well-being. As the building blocks of a healthy body, vitamin B has a direct impact on energy levels, brain function and cell metabolism
What is vitamin C?
An antioxidant that helps protect cells against the affects of free radicals - molecules produced when your body breaks down food or is exposed to sun radiation
What is vitamin D?
A fat-soluble vitamin that has long been known to help the body absorb and retain calcium and phosphorus; both are critical for building bone.
Lab studies show that Vit D can reduce cancer cell growth, help control infections and reduce inflammation
