Nutrients cycle Flashcards
1
Q
Define producer
A
An organism that can synthesis organic molecule from simple inorganic ones
2
Q
Define molecule
A
Group of atoms bonded together to form the smallest functional until for the chemical
3
Q
Define biomass
A
Total mass of living material, normally measures in a specific area over a given period of time
4
Q
Define ion
A
An atom or molecules with a net overall charge due to loss or gain of electrons
5
Q
Define consumer
A
Organisms that obtain energy by eating another
6
Q
Define inorgainic
A
Molecules/ions not derived from living matter
7
Q
Describe the phosphate cycle
A
- Phosphorous eroded from sedimentary rocks or fertiliser. Dissolves in water making phosphate ions
- Dissolved phosphates uptake by roots of produces. Dissolved phosphate uptake by mycorrhizae. Converted to biomass(DNA)
- Producer eaten by consumer passing on phosphate ions
- Excess ions excreted in waste or death of producer and consumer. Fixed into bone. Sapribionts breakdown biomass release phosphate ions into soil
- Phosphate ions dissolved in water forming sedimentary rocks
