Nursing theory: provides a framework to guide and improve nursing practice by helping nurses:
- Organize and communicate knowledge.
- Apply knowledge professionally and responsibly.
- Guide problem-solving, decision-making, and practice.
- Connect concepts to strengthen the nursing profession.
=> bridges theory -> practice = using evidence-based approaches to understand key concepts—person, health, environment, and nursing—essential for holistic, patient-centered care.
Nursing Metaparadigm
4 interconnected concepts ( Health, Person, Environment, Nursing) -> provide a conceptual framework for holistic, patient-centered care in nursing.
Nursing Metaparadigm- Person
Individuals, families, communities receiving care.
Holistic beings (biological, psychological, social, spiritual).
Care should be individualized + patient-centered.
Nursing Metaparadigm- Health
A state of physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being.
Influenced by determinants of health (personal, social, economic, environmental).
Promoted through prevention (primary, secondary, tertiary).
Nursing Metaparadigm- Environment
Immediate surroundings (family, home, work)
Broader factors (community, global systems).
Positively or negatively impacts health.
Nurses use community resources to support well-being.
Nursing Metaparadigm- Nursing
Promotes, maintains, and restores health.
Uses evidence-based practices, critical thinking, and interventions.
