1) must complete education requirements
2) must pass the written and skills test with a minimum score stated by the State Examiner
Who does the CNA work under?
The RN or LPN
What are the duties of a CNA?
- vital signs
- bathing
- feeding
- ambulating
- dressing
- assisting the RN or LPN
- NEVER giving medication

1 year program at a hospital based or vocational school
How does an LPN become licensed…
1) graduate from an approved school of nursing
2) pass the licensing exam with at least the required minimum score for the state, in which they are being licensed in the state they will be working
How many years until an LPN must renew their license?
- Every 2 years by the Board of Registration for a fee.
- does not need to retake exam, but needs a certain number of Continuing Education Units in the prior 2 years to be able to renew the next 2 years
Who does the LPN work under?
- doctor
- nurse with more education–> RN or NP
What are the duties of a LPN?
- provide care to a stable patient
- assist RN with acutely ill patients
- assist RN with complex procedures
- administer certain medications as needed
Education of an RN…
1) 2 year program at a junior college, community college– graduating gives you the ability to take the RN licensing exam and an Associates Degree
Or
2) 2 year program at a hospital based program– graduating with the ability to take the RN licensing exam, a diploma for the program, and possibly credits towards a Bachelors Degree
Or
3) 4 year program at a private or state college/university– graduate with the ability to take the RN licensing exam and a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in nursing
How does a RN become licensed?
